Forced Amnesia

Artist(s)
Mary-Audrey Ramirez
Curator(s)
Dr Nadia Ismail, Kevin Muhlen

The exhibition Forced Amnesia, co-produced with Kunsthalle Gießen where it was presented in spring 2023, brings together recent works and new productions by Luxembourg artist Mary-Audrey Ramirez.

Digital techniques and creatures inspired by video games are central to Mary-Audrey Ramirez's work. Reflections on the contrasts between imagination and reality and the intrusive omnipresence of digital technology in our daily lives define the artist's creative universe. Her installations, often imbued with apocalyptic beauty and not devoid of subtle humour, are rooted in the world of video games. In fact, for her exhibition at Casino Luxembourg, Mary-Audrey Ramirez has designed a video game that forms an integral part of her work, taking the encounter between fiction and reality even further.

Mary-Audrey Ramirez lives and works in Berlin. Her works have been shown in both solo and group exhibitions at institutions such as Dortmunder Kunstverein, Dortmund; Kai 10, Düsseldorf; Haus Mödrath, Kerpen; Margot Samel Gallery, New York City; Polansky Gallery, Prague and MARTINETZ, Cologne. She was also part of Esch2022+ARS ELECTRONICA, Luxembourg/Linz and was awarded the Edward Steichen Award Luxembourg in 2019, prized with a six-month residency at the ISCP New York.

Mary-Audrey Ramirez is represented by MARTINETZ, Cologne.
