The Great Chevalier

Artist(s)
M. Chevalier

In the framework of Focus Spectale vivant 2024 organised by Kultur | lx – Arts Council Luxembourg

On 9 November 1974, the Ballet National Folklorique du Luxembourg gave its very first performance here at Casino, to a packed house, with the unforgettable Josiane, The Country Girl by sisters Joséphine and Claudine Bal, founders of the company. Fifty years later, BNFL marks its return to Casino Luxembourg with The Great Chevalier. To celebrate this anniversary, M. Chevalier, the new artistic director, is revisiting the venue with an evening that pays tribute to the historic link between Casino and the BNFL.

Kicking off the world tour with this first Luxembourg date, M. Chevalier offers us a moment of high-flying dance thanks to his breathtaking physical prowess as a soloist.  The Great Chevalier incorporates a series of figures that have catapulted the Ballet National to international prominence, including the ‘Dauwendanz’ (pigeon dance). The 'Dauwendanz' is widely recognised as one of the most emblematic and challenging pieces in the contemporary folk dance repertoire.

A tender and intimate love letter to the country, danced by one of its most illustrious dancers, the tour will be an opportunity to visit all the prestigious venues that have contributed to the Ballet National's success.
