The Magical Realism in the Multiverse—About TheCube Project SpaceA 20-min presentation by Amy Cheng

Founded in 2010 by independent curator Amy Cheng and music critic Jeph Lo, TheCube Space (Taipei, Taiwan) aims to explore local culture in depth, connect people from diverse backgrounds, establish long-term relationships with artists and participants and promote cultural exchanges between Taiwan and the international community. Amy Cheng's presentation revolves around the development of the venue. As the residue of Taiwanese history, TheCube Project Space was supposed to be left on the ash heap of history. Hardships notwithstanding, it managed to acquire the abilities of “recycling” and “transformation” from the broken life of the post-martial law generation, and ergo metamorphosed into a “method” for historical, geographical, and cultural counter mapping.

preCAPTCHAA 20-min presentation by Chi-Yu WU

This presentation tries to pinoint the difference between artificial intelligence and self will. Does such a thing as self will even exist or are we programmed from the get go? The artist in his own words: "I cannot help but to reconfirm whether the keywords suggested by Google Search are the products I am looking for, and whether the content recommended by Gmail is the ideal version of my reply, just because I learned from the television series Westworld that human beings had no self-consciousness but acted exactly like artificial intelligence in the very beginning—they thought, made, and implemented decisions by following the program of another system in their brains."

Sounds of a Possible FutureA 30-min lecture performance by Tzu-Ling LEE

This event requires the viewing audience’s participation.

The artist will encourage the viewing audience to imagine Earth’s environmental conditions and where they think they will be two decades later. Will the disappearance of icebergs lead to global sea level rise or render the legendary Northwest Passage open? Will it cause extinction of species or survival of the fittest? Will technological advances make our lives more convenient or create more restrictions and disasters?

The audience will be invited to describe and share their imagined future in public.

All the participants will then eventually collaboratively compose a song about a possible future.
