Pavillon Réalité Virtuelle
During its 2016 edition, the Luxembourg City Film Festival presented a Full Virtual Reality Corner with the ambition of heightening the public's awareness of this sensory, narrative and technological revolution in 360° - it was immediately successful. In 2017, the festival went further in its approach to virtual reality by developing - for the first time in Luxembourg! - the Virtual Reality Pavilion, which was set up for this occasion at the "Aquarium" in the Casino Luxembourg.
This event was initiated by the founders of the audio-visual production company a_BAHN and the festival, in partnership with Digital Luxembourg and the Film Fund Luxembourg, and aims to celebrate the creativity and audacity of a fledgling industry which is revolutionising our relationship with the image. The Virtual Reality Pavilion offers an adventurous programme from the narrative and aesthetic points of view made up from around 10 works focused on 'militancy' and activism. Talks and meetings with professionals from the discipline are organised for after the screening sessions and attempt to respond to two questions:
- How can a medium such as virtual reality (VR) engage an audience in activist campaigns?
- Empathy is one of the strong arguments for legitimising virtual reality. But is this really an end in itself or must we get past sensationalism which is predominant, at the moment, in many works?
This space, exclusively dedicated to virtual reality, offers the public original viewing experiences and total immersion.
Scenography: Laura Mannelli.
