Nora Cristea, Vincent Schneider, Contemporary Artist Things – CAT

During the pandemic, Nora Cristea and Vincent Schneider, a Berlin-based designer and curator team, developed the online art platform CAT (Contemporary Artist Things) with the aim of giving visibility and support to the emerging contemporary art scene. With the exhibition €AT, the Casino Luxembourg – Forum d'art contemporain shifts this curatorial initiative into the institutional space, providing the artists with new visibility.

€AT has been conceived of as an allegory of a dinner party, where creation and accessibility meet. Curated by Nora Cristea and Vincent Schneider and commissioned by Kevin Muhlen, this metaphoric, inclusive and open-ended project brings together the work of fifty international artists in a large catalogue of limited-edition artworks available for purchase at affordable prices. Like a visual banquet, the works are exhibited across two large tables, their horizontal display underlining the equal treatment given to each of the participating artists. Each piece, whatever its format, becomes the medium of a unique experiment at the intersection of art, design and pop culture.

€AT is a play on words between the verb “eat” (referring to the scenography of the banquet) and the acronym CAT (Contemporary Artist Things). By adding the two horizontal lines of the euro sign to the C, €AT subtly highlights the underlying economic dimension of the speculations on the international art market, as opposed to social impact approaches. The artworks on display are listed with their prices and can be bought simply by asking at the Casino Luxembourg front desk. The profits of the sales are forwarded to respective artists and CAT, supporting both the artists and the online art platform.

A number of new works, specially conceived for the exhibition, will be launched by artists Angélique Aubrit & Ludovic Beillard, Vanessa Brown and Mariechen Danz, who have been supported in their production process by Casino Luxembourg – Forum d’art contemporain. Vanessa Brown was invited to participate in this programme by Kevin Muhlen; Mariechen Danz by Nora Cristea and Vincent Schneider; and Angélique Aubrit & Ludovic Beillard by Agnes Gryczkowska, curator of the exhibition Theatre of Cruelty, which will open at Casino Luxembourg on 15 November 2025, and in which the two artists will be taking part.
