A documentary which blurs the line between real life and virtual reality
Somewhere on the internet lies a territory where online users come together to play a survival game. The directors of Knit’s Island generated their film from the 963 hours they spent inside the game, where their avatars came to know other users. These “players” reveal their fantasies and fears in a sometimes disturbing look at the blurred boundaries between the virtual world and reality.
By immersing themselves in a video game where players from all walks of life pursue diverse quests, the three directors develop a novel approach to filmmaking. Their investigation unfolds like a real documentary, with actual humans behaving through their avatars. A unique reflection on our relationship to virtuality and the issues that await us “in real life”
