Slow Teleport

Artist(s)
Alex Schweder, Ward Shelley, Matthew Brown, Clemens Klein

The many devices at play in Slow Teleport are a direct response to its location in the labyrinth of the Parc Central, in Kirchberg. The performance showcased the two New York artists in residence Alex Schweder (b. 1970), Ward Shelley (b. 1950) and European team members Matthew Brown and Clemens Klein, as they all lived and worked on an improvised portable structure above ground for ten days (from 23 June to 2 July 2019)without leaving, talking to people who came to see them about the meaning of their work.

The premise of this piece was the crossing of the maze – not by walking through it, but by going over it without touching the ground. To do this they built bridges that linked colourful numbered markers located above the hedges, high enough to be seen from the outside. These were also supply caches which mapped a route across the maze. Now that the team has left the scene, the multi-colored gates, the empty food terminals and the curious and impressive "The Object" remain until 29 August 2019 to see.
